AMustReadStory: How a grownup man was slapped by two police officers in my presence for free?

...Just as I was trying to get back home on time, haven't rested as a result of an hectic day job at the Duplex where I painted today, things almost got bad for me along the way, but to Almighty God be the glory, because the worst might had transpired.

I was unfortunate to find myself in a car with six boys plus the driver, making us seven in total. We were returning from Ozoro to Ughelli (a near by town). Just within the round-about after the Ozoro town, for those of us that are familiar with that place in Delta, you know where am talking about.

There came the Police (Ogas at the top) ahead of us in their normal routine, mounting a road block, looking  for vehicles that will break the law. Just at the sight of six boys in the car I boarded by one of the Police, the officer asked the driver to park and ask everyone out of the car? He then ask us all to raised up our hands and be searched not minding what the driver was trying to show him - his particulars? He started searching us one after the other, beginning from the driver.

Although, he was getting resistances from the others as they find it awkward, unknowingly to them he was actually doing his job. I was the second from the last to be searched. Though, before he got to my turn, I was like "which kind wahala be this", because I was thinking on how to get home and rest.

In no time, he was through searching me and got to the last person, which is the man that started the whole drama (like a Nigeria film). Remember, we were asked to raised our hands and be searched, but this man insisted not to. Nonetheless, the quiet officer never minded him and went ahead with the search even at his negligence to the officer fiat, the man's hands was still on his waist.

If that was not enough for the him, he went ahead to asked the officer saying, " if you see thief you go know am", the officer turn a deaf ear and went along with the search? Not until he repeated the statement and the officer had no choice but to give (slang:land) him a very audible slap. I was shocked when I heard the slap and try to fathom if it was allowed by the law for an officer to do that. Within 2secs another slap from their leader right palm was already a pass tense on the man's face.

Now, the reason for the second slap was because after the first, he started shouting at the officer. Saying that, "you slap me, I will bring someone to slap you back". My people! before I know it, this man refuse to enter the car back for us to leave but instead, he started ranting. Even at that, he was saying out threats at the two officers.

Before the look of things, we had already spent half an hour which was about half past 8p.m. by then. I was furious on my own, because this man wanted to make us fall victims for police officers. Me, some other passengers and the driver started begging this man but he insisted not to stop. The luck we had, was that this man did not undergo combat with the officers in uniform. If not the worst would have happened. Nigeria Police can be something else.

To cut the story short, one of the passengers called a friend - an officer who was also stationed at Ozoro town to come to our aid. He arrived and settled the issue amicably between the man and the officers. If not, I would been writing this story from the cell or elsewhere. Me that was quiet, humbleness saved my face.
